Happy New Moon - May 2025

MAY'S NEW MOON

Hi There Reader!

I'm sorry that I missed last month. My world was massively altered, and I am still navigating the fallout.

CURRENT EVENTS IN THE SPELLING ROOM

Digital Marketing Certificate

I have officially completed 75% of my program and await dates for the final two classes.

52-Week Exposure Project

I am currently behind and trying to catch up:

Week 13: (first row) - In The Shallows - Shoot with your aperture wide open.
Week 14: (second row) - Wax Works - Make an image using candlelight.
Week 15: (Second row) - Monochrome Magic - Make a compelling black and white image.
Week 16: (third row) - Catch Some Rays - Make an image at sunrise or sunset.
Week 17: (last row) - Movie Maker - make a cinematic image in a letterbox style.

52-Week Sony Alpha Female with Brooke Shaden

I embarked on another creative project with the amazing Brooke Shaden in the Sony Alpha Female Facebook Group. My goal was to link the project to my yoga goal of working toward Scorpion Pose. I got the first three images done and was proud of what I was doing, and then in Week 4, my world was shattered. I lost my husband in a motorcycle accident. I am just this week trying to pick up the pieces of my projects and catch up. I don't know what the project will look like now, but I plan to show up and create as feels right at the time. You can see what each is about by visiting my Instagram or Facebook pages or seeing my posts in the Sony Alpha Female group for now. I will be sharing them in-depth in The Grimoire eventually, for now I am just going to create them.

Week 1: Beginning
Week 2: Red
Week 3: Light
Week 4: Fantasy

A GLIMPSE INTO THE FUTURE

This is one of two to be shared on Wednesday, The Widow:

A MESSAGE FROM SPIRIT

Time to step forward into the unknown. There is an infinite realm of possibilities before you, but you must take that first step. Decide what you will take with you and what you will leave behind. Have faith. Trust yourself. Open your arms to the universe.

WHAT NOW?

Things are changing in my life now that my husband is gone. Creating is still important to me, but I don't know what this photography/art journey will look like now. I will still send these New Moon Missives, but they may evolve over the next year. Honestly, I feel a bit untethered. I don't know what direction to go or what I even want for myself now. Just who am I without my best friend? Stick around if you want to see how I explore these existential questions.

I am interested in any creative resources that explore grief, so please, if you have any ideas, would you share them with me?

P.S. If you love what you read here, please invite your friends to sign up: New Moon Missives

I'm a weirdo portrait photographer currently navigating the loss of my husband and rediscovering who I am as a creative. Every New Moon I send out a missive with deep thoughts, updates, maybe some dark humour and a tarot reading.

HAPPY DECEMBER NEW MOON! November was a rather peaceful month! Which I probably needed after my whirlwind adventures! I have been enjoying my time at home. Even having to spend time alone felt good. Typically I only like being in an empty house for a day or two and then I begin to feel very lonely and miss all my people. But this time spending a whole week on my own with just my pets and plants felt good. No pressure to worry about anyone's needs but my own. Ok, I still had to feed the pets...

HAPPY NOVEMBER NEW MOON! October was a whirlwind month of travel for me. Last New Moon I wrote to you from Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. Since then I visited Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Salem and Boston. In fact, I spent my birthday learning about the Salem Witch Trials at the Peabody Essex Museum, doing a History and Hauntings Walking Tour and eating at the awesome Howling Wolf Taqueria (so good by the way) with my sister. She took me on the trip. I didn't take much more than...
